Lander Mark1
We set out to create something special.
This is the very first CATSA Limited Object Project and we sincerely hope you and your kittens will be smitten. Act fast if you want to bring one home though, as we are limiting the Mark1 release to just 99 serialized units!
The limited edition CATSA Lander Mark1 is a refined feline escape pod.
The Mark1 features a distinct, precision-milled composite aluminum shell.
The Lander entryway is protected by a high impact, 3D printed ABS door frame.
A laser-etched CATSA Mission Badge is prominently positioned by the entryway.
The laser-etched ID badge designates this Mark1 as a prototype. Each Lander will sport its own serialized ID number.
Only 99 of the Mark1 cat pods and 9 artists proofs will be produced with the debut colorway and material combination.
The Lander is stabilized by nine soft rubber isolation claws.
The High Density Polyethylene components (HDPE) will not delaminate when exposed to UV, humidity or water.
The Mark1 flies a black and silver damask Jolly-CATSA flag hoisted on a spring steel antenna.
The HDPE used for the components is one of the easiest plastics to recycle. HDPE is accepted at most recycling centers.
The plush 1 inch foam bed has a removable cover that is sewn locally from new and upcycled materials.
A cable routing port allows the use of an electric small-animal heating pad, however the heating pad is not included.
The CATSA Lander Mark1 is the product of over six months of persistent research, trial, and quite a lot of error.
CATSA collaborated with the Iontank design team to create a series of prototypes that evaluated proportions, materials, stability, and durability with the help of our rambunctious Catsanaut test pilots. Sadly, many Landers did not survive the rigorous process and several pilots were suspended after a large cache of catnip was found stowed aboard a particularly savaged prototype. (Rest assured, our shop team will be patching up the salvageable Landers and donating them to local cat rescue organizations.)
Collateral damage aside, we eventually succeeded in creating a truly stunning feline escape pod. We are also pleased to report that the Catsanauts love curling up in their fleet of Landers just as much as the cardboard boxes they come packaged in. As any cat aficionado knows, that is an unmistakable endorsement!
Even with the R&D behind us, the Landers are very labor intensive to fabricate given the amount of hand finishing involved in each and every one. 3D design packages, CNC machines, large format laser cutters, small format laser etching, industrial sewing machines, 3D printers, a customized arbor press, soldering irons and a great deal of hand routing and sanding all come into play. We took no shortcuts and made no compromises on the quality of the finished Mark1.
